Why is gasoline so high?

According to the AAA, Washington and California now duel to have the highest gas prices in the country.

Gas prices are going to continue to rise as the policies implemented from HB 1091 and SB 5126 in 2021 are projected to raise the price of a gallon of gas by roughly 50 cents by 2030. This will come with a rise in the cost of groceries, goods, and heating. These policies have already raised the price of gas by 46 cents with more increases expected this summer and fall.

Recently, Governor Jay Inslee has tried to shift blame for the rising gasoline costs onto the oil companies, but even the Seattle Times called that accusation “hogwash and baloney” and put it squarely on these two measures he promoted.

Inslee’s 'Climate Commitment Act' tax plan has failed, with nothing to show for it except high gas and diesel prices in Washington. The governor should acknowledge this and take action to relieve the people. A special legislative session should be called to solve this problem.

Here’s how our local Hood Canal area legislators voted on these two measures:

HB 1091 2021-22

Senator Kevin Van De Wege (D-LD24) – Voted YES

Represenative Steve Tharinger (D-LD 24) – Voted YES

Represenative Mike Chapman (D-LD 24) – Voted YES

Senator Drew MacEwen (R-LD35) – Voted NO

Representative Dan Griffey (R-LD35) – Voted NO

SB 5126 2021-22

Represenative Steve Tharinger (D-LD 24) – Voted YES

Represenative Mike Chapman (D-LD 24) – Voted YES
